Spring is a joyful time of year — flowers are in bloom, the weather begins to warm up and bulky coats and fabrics give way to light cardigans and more skin.

The colors of the season are representative of the fun, flirty nature of springtime. From day to day fashion to everything wedding, the key to capturing spring is in color.

Dresses

Since the traditional wedding dress is white, how can spring weddings evoke the season? Through the bridal party, of course.

The rules for bridesmaid dresses have changed over the years. No longer is the bridal party a vehicle for making the bride look better. These days, bridesmaids are primed to sparkle just as brightly as the bride they are supporting. Not only are the dresses more modern, they no longer all have to look the same. Often times brides will pick a color and allow her bridesmaids to choose a dress they love in that shade.

Color is an important part of a wedding. Traditionally, spring colors are light and pastel with pinks, baby blues, lilac and greens making appearanes. But there is something to say about making a color statement at a wedding.

Yellow is a wonderful color for a spring wedding. With the different shades, from sunshine to mustard and everything in between, yellow is the kind of color that will remind wedding guests of what a happy occassion they are celebrating.

Instead of the pastel, Easter egg colors, consider dipping into the richer stock of the primary color wheel. The First Coast is a beachside paradise, so take inspiration from the coast and all of the rich blues and greens.

When it comes to the bridal party, don’t be afraid of color. Even traditional fall colors, like reds, orange and brown, will work. The important thing is to use the color wheel to your advantage.

Tables

If you’d rather keep your bridesmaid’s looking traditional, consider branching out with color on the table.

Use flowers as a guide and pick a color for your tables that represent a beautiful spring garden. Blooms and blossoms are lovely for spring and there are so many different flower varieties to choose from that it won’t be a problem to find flowers that light up your tablescapes.

Another way to integrate the spring color wheel into your wedding plan is through your choice of linen.

Draping tables with light, guazy linen in spring colors will make your guests feel like they are enjoying a garden party. Colored tablecloths and napkins are a great, easy way to integrate color into the wedding. Chosing colors that are bright and fun — purples, greens and blush shades — will go a long way towards making the spring pop at your celebration.

Whatever you prefer by way of color, remember that springtime is all about the brightness that comes after the gray of winter. Greens are greener, reds are brighter, blues are crisper and all of the colors of the rainbow peek out again during the spring. Spring weddings are all about the same fun, light, fresh feel and the best way to achieve that is through color. Find your inspriation in the world around you and you’ll be set.
